Qualities of a Christian Mystic
WISDOM
Christian mystics are able to spontaneously draw from The Lord’s unending reservoir of wisdom. In turn, they communicate that wisdom (good judgment) clearly to others. At the right time, the mystic receives a download from the Holy Spirit and communicates that message to others. This is called “Wisdom Explained.”
As the mystic grows spiritually there is a greater freedom to express God’s wisdom. Also, they have the ability to receive (and perceive) the thoughts of others. Mystics convey wisdom that is deeply in line with Biblical teaching. Each word emphasizes a transformational encounter with the living God.
But the wisdom from above is first of all pure (undefiled); then it is peace-loving, courteous (considerate, gentle). [It is willing to] yield to reason, full of compassion and good fruits; it is wholehearted and straightforward impartial and unfeigned (free from doubts, wavering, and insincerity) (James 3:17 AMPC).
The Lord plans an encounter. Wisdom flows forth. It is a touch from God. Spiritual energy flows from a Christian mystic to another person, either through speech or in silence.
CHANGE AGENT
Feeling called to this Christian path means preparing your heart to connect with Him. It starts when the person meets The Lord in the cave of darkness – turning a time of sadness into new understanding and a fresh mindset. Where hearing from God is more important than speaking to Him. Prayer patterns shift. While in the cave alone, spiritual awareness becomes second-nature and Godly wisdom flows.
Some view how the church looks and operates as inconsistent and miss something. They feel that introducing a new approach could work alongside current Christian traditions. Today’s spiritual culture welcomes their passionate, creative, and insightful way of thinking.
TRUST
Resist the urge to think God has forgotten you. It is heartbreaking for a Christian mystic to be distracted from their destiny.
TRUST – The Lord who never forgets you.…I, the Lord, made you, and I will not forget you (Isaiah 44:21b NLT).
Embrace God's path despite the challenges. Wherever they travel, Christian mystics carry and reflect God’s love and power. He will provide everything needed to fulfill your purpose. Drive forward and loosen your grip on the past.
TRUST – Obey The Lord then wait patiently. Yet those who wait for the Lord Will gain new strength… (Isaiah 40:31a NASB).
The Christian mystic is forced to wait. Nothing seems to be happening. Unseen forces are at work. The journey to spiritual awakening doesn’t make sense. It goes against what is visible, familiar, and understood. Waiting leads to new power and strength.
TRUST – He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less (John 3:30 NLT).
Christian mystics faithfully dedicate their lives to God, trusting that He will assist them in overcoming obstacles to reach their destiny.
ENCOURAGEMENT
When Barnabas was mentioned in Scripture (Acts 4:36) he was nicknamed Son of Encouragement. This is the core of the mystic calling – encouragement. Barnabas’ spiritual heritage is of the Tribe of Levi. The Levites devoted themselves to spiritual pursuits focused around encouragement. They ministered The Lord’s instruction requiring them to live and travel throughout all the land. The same applies to the modern day Christian mystic.
SERVICE
As each of you has received a gift (a particular spiritual talent, a gracious divine endowment), employ it for one another as [befits] good trustees of God’s many-sided grace [faithful stewards of the extremely diverse powers and gifts granted to Christians by unmerited favor] (I Peter 4:10 AMPC).
Christian mystics are surprisingly relevant to modern life. Their message is practical and healing. They sense there is more to life than making a living. Their focus is on being of service in the world. They don't draw attention to themselves. Mystics are first sent on a dark and unfamiliar path. The Lord wants to send a message that He did not create them to be self-sufficient. As the Christian mystic walks the new path, God reveals details to his/her destiny.
Christian mystics need to wait patiently for the path towards spiritual wholeness to reveal itself before they can engage in acts of service.

Surrender

Christian mysticism has been acknowledged for many generations. People are becoming more open-minded and welcoming toward mystical thought.
Some view the form and function of today’s church as inconsistent and incomplete. They sense something new and fresh needs to be introduced to the Christian community. Christian mystics are part of that discussion. This group is significantly shaping today's spiritual culture by developing fresh, relevant models for ministry, evangelism, and outreach.

God Builds a Bridge to the Unknown
Christian mystics prayerfully travel with The Lord. On the pathway, they receive wisdom and understanding. These insights come to their heart at just the right time. While on the bridge, the Christian mystic experiences a God-given emptying and a filling with something surpassing who they used to be. The crossing represents an one-way path, and in the unknown they are met with guidance, empowerment, and greater understanding.
On the bridge, God communicates through symbols and signposts that guide them to where they have never been. They discover a new world that is alive with His presence. Wisdom for each day is gained by following the messages already given, as The Lord illuminates the path of those who love Him. During the journey, God assigns specific and unique tasks to deliver encouragement and healing.
